Everyone has had a sinus infection at one time or another. If you can honestly say that you have never had the misfortune of having a runny, drippy nose then maybe you should market your proprietary antigens. Unfortunately, it seems like sinus infections plague us at different times throughout the year, unlike colds and influenzas that seem to pop up during winter months. Sometimes seasonal allergies evolve into sinusitis and that just compounds the misery of the sufferer. While there are prescription and OTC medications that can treat sinus infections, they are often just a dangerous and unpleasant as the sinus infection. There ARE natural remedies that can effectively treat the symptoms and at times, actually cure the condition.
If you are having difficulty breathing then the first step to take is to clear the nasal passages. Many people find steam effective, and some prefer to add a few drops of menthol or eucalyptus oil to the boiling water. Place it in a bowl on the table and drape a towel over your head and the bowl so that you get the full effect of the steam. You can also use a heat vaporizer in your room, but the steam is much more diffused that way. If you want immediate relief, the old fashioned bowl and towel trick is the best.
Also, there are any number of anti-inflammatory supplements on the market that can help to shrink your swollen nasal passages. A good antioxidant like Acai or Resveratrol should do the trick nicely. Vitamin C and Echinacea also help to heal infected sinuses.
You are not limited to pharmaceuticals to treat sinus problems. There is a huge market for nutraceuticals that are just as effective in most cases and in some cases even more effective. Most of the time, they are safer and less expensive than their chemical counterparts. It’s a just a matter of finding what works best for you.
