How To Have More Energy Fast
These days it seems like most people are more zombie than human… barely awake and seeming eerily similar to the undead until they have their morning cup of coffee.
Get Enough Sleep
Some people simply require more sleep than others so if you think that just because your coworkers can get by on 5 or 6 hrs of sleep, that doesn’t mean you can. You may require 8 or even 9 hours of sleep a night.
It might also be a case of simply not getting good, restful sleep. If you have problems with falling asleep or staying asleep, you might be battling insomnia. As a former insomniac myself, I can tell you it’s no fun.
Fortunately, it’s fixable . If you have trouble falling asleep at night or you tend to wake up several times during the night, I recommend trying 7 Hour Slumber Sleep Enhancement.
The other problem some people experience with getting sleep is a problem with snoring… whether their own or from the person sleeping next to them. Here’s a great product to help eliminate snoring.
Eating Better
The food you eat really does make a difference in your energy levels. Just about everyone feels tired after eating thanksgiving dinner. And it’s not because of the turkey but because of all the food you just stuffed yourself with. Eating big meals saps your energy.
Focus on eating smaller meals more often.
Also, focus on eating more fruits and veggies and freshly prepared meals. It’ll make a big difference if everything you typically eat comes out of a can or the microwave. Focus on eating healthier and you will see your energy levels improve.
Best Energy Drinks
While you probably see commercials for energy drinks like Red Bull all the time, I don’t actually recommend those energy drinks. They’re full of sugar and caffeine and they’re certainly not good for you.
I’m going to give you two homemade energy drink recipes that will blow away anything you can buy from the store, and give you a third that is more convenient and is a great boost for those on the go.
Green Lemonade
I first learned about this concoction in the book, The Raw Food Detox Diet by Natalia Rose. After experimenting with the recipe to make it taste a little better, here’s what I came up with
Here’s the recipe I use that really gets my energy levels rockin’ and rollin’ in a hurry. And this stuff will keep you going a lot longer than a typical energy drink as well.
1 Head Romaine Lettuce
2 Fuji Apples
1 Handful or 2 Large Carrots
1 Lemon
1 Lime
1 Handful of Spinach (you could use brussel sprouts or swiss chard here as well)
As far as tastes go, the lemon in the recipe really cuts down on any “green taste.” Trust me, this doesn’t taste like any green drink you’ve had before and it definitely doesn’t taste like wheatgrass (I just can’t drink that stuff no matter how good they say it is for me).
As far as juicers go, most juicers will do the job here. The one I used in the video, though, is a Breville Juice Fountain. It’s a high quality juicer that won’t break the bank and it has a big enough feeder tube that you can fit a lot of fruits and vegetables in there without having to cut them up first – a convenient time saver.
One thing I do recommend, however, is that you drink it fresh. The bitterness of the greens will make its presence known if you let this sit for more than 30 minutes and it’s not nearly as pleasant. Drink it immediately after juicing.
Energizing Smoothie
If the idea of drinking anything green is unappealing or you don’t have a juicer, no problem. This next recipe is for your blender. It requires a couple ingredients you probably won’t find at your local supermarket, but this thing will also provide a mega boost of energy if you’re feeling lethargic.
This drink is also full of fiber which is a nice bonus.
While any blender can make this drink, it’ll taste a heck of a lot better if you use a high power blender like a BlendTec (of “Will It Blend” fame on Youtube). While those blenders may be good at blending things like iPhones and GPS units, it’s actually better at blending food. The main difference between using this kind of blender and the standard blender you probably already have is that this blender will make your smoothie, smoother. And it can also crush the strawberry seeds in this recipe (makes it much tastier).
Energy Smoothie Recipe
1 Banana
2 Slices Fresh Pineapple
1 Cup Frozen Strawberries
4 oz Mangosteen or Pomegranate Juice
2 Capsules Fo-Ti Root (also called He-Shou-Wu)
1 Tablespoon Maca Root
Press the “whole juice” button if you have a Blendtec. Otherwise, 45-60 seconds of blending on high should do the trick.
This is an ultra tasty treat that will do wonders for your energy levels.
Energy Drink And Soft Chews
I know that sometimes you just need a quick boost, and that you’re simply not going to have access to a juicer or blender. So here is my favorite energy drink when I can’t use one of the above recipes. I also like to use this stuff right before playing in my flag football league.
This stuff is really pretty damn good. Lance Armstrong uses this stuff. If it’s good enough for Lance, it’s good enough for me. It’s called FRS Energy.
While this stuff isn’t available in stores, you can get a FREE TRIAL of the stuff here. They’ll send you a two week supply for the price of shipping and handling (I don’t recall what it is, but it’s no big deal – like $5 or something .)
It’s great a giving you a big energy boost, but without the crash you get with most of the energy drinks you get from the store.
Exercise
The last way to improve your energy levels is by exercise. I know that it sounds counter intuitive, but a quick workout is a great way to give yourself a quick boost of energy. No time to get to the gym? Just run in place for 2-3 minutes. Whether you’re at home, the office, or just about anywhere, you can use this trick to get more energy.
If you’re looking for a great full body workout, here’s an extremely effective one you can do in just 7 minutes!
